What is Scrapbooking?
Definition: Scrapbooking (verb): The creative art of taking books with blank pages and adding photos, memorabilia, journaling, and embellishments. The primary purpose of scrapbooking is to preserve memories for future generations, but a secondary purpose often is to exercise your creativity as you display your memories in a scrapbook.
I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday at beautiful Simsbury Inn in CT attending a weekend scrapbooking summit. My third daughter, who drove down from the Boston area, and I were among approximately a hundred women gathered to let our creative juices flow. These are gatherings where women stay up into the middle of the night, if not all night or they get up very early the next morning and start all over again.
There was plenty of chatting, laughter, slicing, cutting, gluing, oohing and aahing going on. There were friends meeting friends and new friends to be made. It appeared a good time was had by all.

I've heard of scrapbooking, but never seen it done- never knew there was such a thing as a scrapbooking summit- are we going to get to see some of your scrapbook?
Hobbies...knitting, calligraphy, writing- all done fairly infrequently and only when time allows and the mood takes!

Cinnamon-they called it a summit, but it is the same as a retreat. Chances of seeing the pages i did are very slim, because I don;t like to put pictures of my family online. I also knit, I have been knitting scarves lately.

Scrapbooking has really grown into its own artform. It's amazing the beautiful books available, and the decorations one can use in setting up the pages. What a special way to keep memories, with that personal touch. I am slowly going through all my old photographs, redoing my albums, updating, editing. It is a process that will take years as I only pick it up at whim, on occasion!

I'm afraid to try scrapbooking because it sounds highly addictive. And I used to knit AND quilt. Both addictive pastimes! Knitting can be quite expensive too! It's hard to resist those exotic fancy yarns.
I understand your concerns about not posting family pics on the Web. How about some pics of your knitware?

Auntie-it is an addictive and expensive hobby. I hate to think how much I have spent buying supplies, some I have never even used. Knitting is something I have just taken up again after many decades. I have only knitted scarves and I gave them to my daughters, so no pictures.
That sounds so cool, I wish we had entire weekends of scrapbooking. I've attended a few 2 or 3 hour workshops, but they're always over before you really get started. I do, however, often bring my scrapbooking material with me when I travel for work. Gives me something to do for fun :-)
