Theme Thursday=Luggage

Well I really don't have anything genius this week to post. I'm sitting here at 11:53 pm Wednesday night knowing I need to pack my luggage again for another trip. Since I'm not leaving until noon tomorrow I think I'll wait until morning to pack.

I'm not all that enthusiastic about packing luggage. You might ask why is that? On May 12th I packed luggage to go Phoenix, AZ to visit a friend who moved there last year while I was there on May 14th I packed luggage to fly to Santa Fe, NM for a four day literary retreat we attended. Than I packed the luggage again on May 17th to fly back to Phoenix, AZ and finally I packed the luggage on May 19th to fly back to Connecticut.

Now today I have finally finished washing all the laundry that was in the luggage. And its time to pack up the luggage again for a trip to Massachusetts for my son-in-laws Friday retirement ceremony after serving 20 years in the Air Force as an attorney. Leaving there its off on a flight to Texas for a grandson's high school graduation. At least I'll be there for two weeks and I won't have to pack and unpack unless I spend time staying at more than one of my three children who live there.

When you are flying with luggage now days its a bit tricky how you are going to keep the weight of the luggage under 50 pounds, so you don't have to pay extra above regular fees. On most airlines the first bag you check is $15 and the second is $25(those fees are going up soon). Hopefully you don't need to check that second bag. Unfortunately, I did after my Christmas trip to Texas, because I went shopping and had to buy another piece of luggage to take everything home. I did consider mailing things home, but decided not to. Now to get around the second checked bag on my most recent trips I checked one bag, had one carry-on bag and a large tote bag. I didn't take my laptop on the trips. A week without a computer was rough.

Today I bought a laptop sleeve for the laptop and plan on putting the laptop in the carry-on. Traveling is fun, but it is just a pain to deal with the luggage.

For not having much to post, you sure came up with quite a bit. I'm with you on the not being to keen on the packing thing. Have a good trip.

That's a lot of packing and unpacking. Yes, luggage is quite a burden now with travel. We always look for flight bargains - but when you add another $15-25 into the mix, it's not as much of a bargain now, is it? Thankfully when we fly to NY we can just take one carry-on each.

Congratulations to your son, that is quite an accomplishment. I bet he can hardly believe he's done.

Dakota, I have a formula for packing. Put everything you want to take on your bed then reduce it by 30%. Also buy your travel clothes in similar colours so you can mix and match and chuck in some colour accessories for glam. Seriously, I can travel for six months with 14 kilos of luggage. The hair looks shit and I don't smell great but hey . .compromises have to be made!

Well, you must have packing luggage down to an art form! That's a whole latte travelling. Have a wonderful journey these next few weeks.

Sheesh!
You sure had a lot to say, considering you didn't have much to post!
LOL
Back in the old day I used to LOVE packing. But age is creeping up on me...I think.
Baino offers some good advice, though.
PS
Please pack soap!!!!!!!

Aarrgh! And I drove out to New Mexico! I still found my self rummaging through the cases at various stops. By the time we got to the hotel, it seemed I had twice as much to unload...oh isn't travelling grand fun?

You have definitely overdosed on packing! I hate it too. Even if it's an infrequent occurrence...

That's way more traveling than I could handle - and way too much packing. I'm glad I'm not going anywhere for the next month and a half. Bon voyage.

Dak Bear,
As you get ready for Egypt, I want to tell you that when I went there, the guide told us that most ancient artifacts are now in museums.
There are tons of good stuff at the Metropolitan Museum here in NYC and at the Brooklyn Museum.
Just thought you might be interested...

I hope you have a wonderful time! I'm not jealous about all the packing and unpacking you have to do, but spending time with family and friends sounds wonderful.

a bit more tricky to have your family scattered all over the country, yah? it would be ideal for me to have them all in a less than an hour drive away radius. :D

That sure is a whole lot of packing and unpacking that you have had to do. I think I would just have a suitcase wardrobe if I traveled as much as you seem to. That way I would just have to wash the clothes and then put them back. I do keep my travel toiletries packed in their case and that is where they stay. I have found that is easier. But I have not traveled anywhere since my shoulder injury and I am actually happy with that. My daughters and grandkids live about a 20 minute drive away and they usually have to come here. I have to drive with one arm and so I try to drive as little as possible. I am getting pretty good at just using one arm. Left arm is in the lap and just hold the bottom of the steering wheel, so I guess technically I am using two arms, but left arm does not do much.

I hope you have a great time when you are on your trips. I wonder if the deer are missing you. Glad you have a case for your laptop, but not sure if you will be able to get online everywhere without wifi, and I have not tried the bluetooth connection yet. Have you? If so, how well does it work.

Also, was wondering if you have tried those Travel Space Bags? I do think Baino has the right idea about the colors and mix and match clothes.

Have fun and God bless.
