Theme Thursday=Wind

The Wind
by Robert Louis Stevenson

I saw you toss the kites on high
And blow the birds about the sky;
And all around I heard you pass,
Like ladies' skirts across the grass

Oh wind, a blowing all day long,
Oh wind, that sings so loud a song!

I saw the different things you did,
But always you yourself you hid.
I felt you push, I heard you call,
I could not see yourself at all

Oh wind, a blowing all day long!
Oh wind, that sings so loud a song!

O you that are so strong and cold,
O blower, are you young or old?
Are you a beast of field and tree,
Or just a stronger child than me?

O wind, a blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

One of my most favorite ways to enjoy the wind other than its soothing brush across my face on a balmy summer day is to listen to the melodic sounds of the wind chimes I have outside around the house. Yes, I must admit I am one of those people when seeing wind chimes on display in a store I must put them into motion.

For your pleasure here are a few wind chimes. CLICK on the chimes

Thanks for sharing this great poem. I like those balmy mornings when the curtains are sucked in and out by a pleasant, warm wind.

I was familiar with Stevenson, of course, but not with this particular poem (nor much of his poetry, admittedly). Very nice take on the subject.

Excellent post! I love both windchimes and RLS, so this hit the spot. As we speak, I'm listening to the neighbor's chimes in the tree by our window. Lovely.

well I got to say my constitution just can't take the wind chimes. Actually many years ago we had neighbours that were difficult and to drive us crazy they planted a humongous wind chime(gong) right beside our bedroom window...the wind catcher was a frisbee and the chimer was a huge rock...it sounded like Big Ben.

Good job of illustrating that illusive element!

I clicked on each of the chimes in turn, then closed my eyes and leaned back to listen. The Emperor is definitely my favourite. I could feel it in my fingers and toes.

That's cool I love the wind chimes too. How did you get the soundtracks for them?

I loved the Stevenson poem. It was perfect! I like the sound of wooden chimes - a nice hollow, eastern sound to me.

I love windchimes. Still it took me ages before I noticed that mine weren't chiming, the dangly dongly thing had broken off! All fixed and happy now though.

I too collect windchimes and if I lived closer to my neighbors I am sure it would drive them crazy, luckily there is enough distance that my chimes have never brought complaints. My daughters have made me take down the really big one before. It was like the last chime only magnify it by about 100. I don't know why they didn't like it since one of them bought it for me. When they travel they bring me windchimes, so they know how much I love them. And with the Santa Anas, we get lots of wind here.

Really great post.

God bless.

I've never been really into poetry until recently...
That was very nice. He talks to the wind and asks questions, as if addressing a person.
The audio clips were fun! weeeeee
